As a blogger, or influencer, I’m all too familiar with the importance of social media. And it’s not just us bloggers who need to master the art of connecting via social media either. Businesses really need to understand the importance of interacting with their customers through the likes of Facebook and Twitter. A website alone simply won’t cut it these days.

Why is social media so important?

Social media has grown drastically over the last few years. The vast majority of us have at least one social media account. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that floats our boat, you can guarantee that most of us can be caught scrolling through at least one of these on a daily basis.

Social media is a great way for us to interact with each other quickly and easily, as and when we’ve got a spare five minutes. Gone are the days when we would pick up the landline to call our friends for a catch up. Whilst some people may still do that, most of us really value the convenience of dipping in and out of social media as and when we can during our busy days.

Not only is social media a great way to keep in touch with our loved ones. It’s also being used more and more by people looking for recommendations. Most towns have a local Facebook page where residents can ask for recommendations for pretty much anything. Whether it’s a tradesman or a local cattery, people want to know who others recommend, and who to avoid.

With that in mind, it’s not difficult to see why social media is incredibly important to any modern business.

Taking Facebook as an example, if you run a business and have a Facebook page, then you are far more likely to be tagged by people, and therefore be seen by more potential customers.

How to stand out from the crowd

There are thousands of businesses with a social media presence, so how can you make sure that you stand out against the competition?

You need to make sure that your business page has a really professional look. You’re not going to attract customers with a hastily thrown together banner image and a cobbled together bio. You need to give it some really careful thought. It’s a good idea to use a social media mockup to create professional images that really stand out above the competition.

You can use mockups to create images for all the different social media platforms to give your business a polished, professional look.

Establishing some brand colours and a professional logo can really help your business to stand out, making your images and posts instantly recognisable.

So as well as using social media for personal use, make sure that you make the most of each platform to build up your business too. The more people that see your business, the more likely you are to succeed! It’s a great idea to ask some previous customers to leave you a review on social media too so that people can see that you are the business that they can rely on.
